Leadership Bend: Brainstorming for Students

lb2It’s YOUR Wave – Ride It recently enjoyed an energetic session of brainstorming and steps toward a dream/vision for some of the students at New Leaf Academy (read earlier story here) with participants from the 2015 Bend Chamber – Leadership Bend class. Mahalo to Connie Druliner of Express Employment Professionals in Bend, OR for sharing their conference room with us for the activity.

Leadership Bend is all about exploring one’s potential as a community leader and discovering the rich terrain of Central Oregon’s civic, nonprofit and corporate landscape. By nature, those who participate in programs like Leadership Bend are do-gooders.  They want to participate in the ongoing work of evaluating and improving the quality of life in Central Oregon.  We were pleased to have them join us in the “Wave Dreams-Wave Ripples” activity in which we develop innovative ideas and new ways of helping youth envison a path to their dreams.  LB-Class-of-2015-580x450

In a speed-brainstorming session six members of the team completed the “Wave Dreams-Wave Ripples” activity generating valuable “next steps for 4 of our New Leaf Academy mini-grant applicants. Best of all, several are eager to do the activity again as we gain more students with life challenges but also a burning vision or dream for their lives. (Students discover their wave)

Mahalo for sharing your time and expertise: Chuck Mohler, Diane Turnbull, Jaimie Christman, Beth Larsen, Maggie Kirby and Lori Murphy.
